Man Sentenced To 84 Days In Jail for Stalking Singer Lana Del Rey

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A young man who stalked singer Lana Del Rey on social media and broke into her Malibu home was sentenced Monday to 84 days in jail and five years probation.

Zachary Benton Self, 19, of Overland Park, Kansas, was also ordered to stay away from the singer for 10 years.

He was sentenced immediately after pleading no contest today to a stalking count. A first-degree burglary count was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

Prosecutors said Self broke into the singer's unoccupied Malibu home, which was undergoing renovations, on Nov. 29.

Construction workers called police after spotting Self, but he was gone when police arrived.

He had been camping in the home's garage and left behind a laptop and notes about his infatuation and "spiritual connection" to the 30-year-old singer-songwriter that led sheriff's deputies to him.

Self used social media to stalk Del Rey, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant, from Nov. 2 to Dec. 1, the date of his arrest, prosecutors said.

He had been jailed in lieu of $200,000 bail since being taken into custody.
