Man arrested after Long Beach hit-and-run crash leaves woman dead

A woman died after she was struck by a driver believed to be intoxicated in Long Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Long Beach Police Department said officers responded to the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. on reports of a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles.

Investigations revealed that a man behind the wheel of a 2019 Volvo was traveling northbound on Atlantic at a high rate of speed when he collided with a 2004 Chevrolet, which overturned. After that initial collision, the Volvo hit two other occupied, stationary vehicles that were stopped at an intersection.

A woman who was a passenger in the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. She's yet to be identified publicly. A man who was driving the vehicle was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

Four additional patients who were in the stationary vehicles, including two children, were unharmed.

The Volvo's driver initially fled the scene, but later returned and was taken into custody. He was identified as 38-year-old Compton resident Adalberto Delgado-Perez.

Delgato-Perez was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury. His bail was set at $100,000.

No additional details were immediatley made available.
