Local German Shepherd Rescue Group Vies For $3K Prize

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC) was selected as a finalist to win a $3000 grant in a national competition.

The group was chosen from over 100 entries and the only organization still competing from Southern California.

Online voting ends Sunday evening at 11:59 Pacific time.

GSROC is competing against nine other groups.  At this writing, a scant .05 margin separates GSROC from their closest competitor, Grey Muzzle Boxers of Texas.

According to GSROC's director, they desperately need this prize to help complete a kennel project that will allow them to house more dogs. The project has reportedly started and stopped several times due to a shortage of funds. "We've been experiencing a financial drought this summer and this has compromised our ability to save more dogs," explains Maria Dales.

The all-volunteer organization currently has more than 75 purebred shepherds under its care. Dogs range in age, color and size, with many having completed basic obedience training.
