Lifeguard Arrested For Lewd Acts With Girl At City Of Commerce Pool Where He Worked

WHITTIER (CBSLA) — A 33-year-old lifeguard faces charges Thursday of committing lewd acts with a 13-year-old girl he met while working as a lifeguard at a public pool in Commerce.

Jason Michael Anda was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of committing lewd acts with a minor under 14. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.

Whittier police detectives say they began investigating after the girl's parents alerted officers to what was happening. Anda is believed to have met the girl while working at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center, developing a relationship that turned physical.

Police could not say how long the relationship lasted, but don't believe any of the incidents happened at the community center.

The City of Commerce runs the center. Officials did not want to comment on the record, but confirmed Anda had passed a background check, including a LiveScan, and was working for the city part-time since 2012.

Anda has been put on administrative leave.

Anyone with information about Anda or who believes they may be a victim can call Detective Adrian Bobadilla at (562) 567-9283.
