Home sweet home is all about putting a unique touch on your living space. The name of the game today is repurposing and reusing, especially when it comes to furnishing a bedroom, living room or backyard. There are many easy-to-access local resources that sell furniture, vintage and used. These five LA-based spots are known for their one-of-a-kind items and make shopping for furniture fun, often inexpensive and never boring. Let the hunt begin.

A mainstay on La Brea Avenue for the last 20 years, Nick Metropolis has a unique selection of 50s, 60s and 70s furniture, along with all kinds of great old signs (Coca Cola, gas station signs and anything that spells "LOVE" are most popular). Shoppers will discover 1950s colorful dinette sets for the breakfast nook, industrial carts and cabinet desks for any home office, "I Love Lucy" 50s style sofas, authentic Brown Saltman tables and chairs for comfortable living spaces and antique dressers, vanities and bookcases for bedrooms. Located in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles, the new Downtown Flea is held in four open-air parking lots located between 2nd and 4th and Main to Broadway. It is open every fourth Sunday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Angelenos looking to acquire highly-collectible and unusual furnishings must visit Downtown Flea. Participating vendors often change, however shoppers will find cool and hip furniture from vendors such as up-cycling, vintage and antique trend master Robert McNellis, who recycles and repurposes found materials into unique, utilitarian furniture and home décor that he creates under the name Kensington Studios. Parking is easy and available in Joe's six-story structure located between 2nd and 3rd on Spring Street.
