LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — After helping one man recover his stolen bicycle, Los Angeles police are singing the praises of a free registration site called the Bike Index.
Los Angeles police detectives on Aug. 10 arrested a man in possession of a bike that was determined to be stolen.
Officers identified the rightful owner of the bicycle with a quick search of www.bikeindex.org, a website where owners can enter a description of their bicycles.
The bicycle's owner, Daniil Sharou, confirmed with officers that his bicycle had been stolen two days earlier on his birthday.
The LAPD "strongly encourages" bicycle owners to register their bicycles on Bike Index, whether already stolen or not.
