LAGUNA BEACH (AP) — Skateboarders in Laguna Beach guilty of committing ollies, grinds and kick-flips with no helmet may now find themselves with no board either.
The City Council voted Tuesday night to pass an ordinance allowing police to confiscate the boards of those caught riding without helmets.
First time offenders would lose their wheels for a week, repeat offenders for up to a month.
State law requires helmets for skaters under 18, but the ordinance applies to all ages.
The Orange County Register reports the measure passed the City Council with a 4-1 vote.
The lone dissenter Councilman Kelly Boyd, said the ordinance required police to become babysitters.
