Power Restored To UCLA After Electrical Vault Explosion

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — An explosion in an electrical vault on the southwest side of UCLA knocked out power Tuesday to some customers in the Westwood area, including a swath of the campus.

Shortly after noon, a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power electrical vault exploded on the campus, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

LADWP crews were called to assist at the scene.

Portions of the campus have been placed on backup power, according to the university.

Officials said possible power loss may affect residents in the surrounding area.

No injuries were reported.

All power was restored at about 1:35 p.m., DWP officials said.

The cause of the blast was under investigation.
