LA Sets Record Tourism Numbers For 2013
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More people visited the Southland in 2013 than ever before.
Mayor Eric Garcetti said Monday morning that 42.2 million tourists came to Los Angeles, topping the 2012 total of more than 41 million.
2013 also marked the third year in a row Los Angeles marked a record for number of tourists.
The three factors vital to the economy of Los Angeles are known as the "Three T's" — Trade, Technology and Tourism.
"Tourism is such a critical engine for Los Angeles," Garcetti said. "Not just about job creation, but creating good jobs.
According to Garcetti, Los Angeles added over 15,000 jobs in the sector of hospitality in 2013.
The medium-term goal is described as having 50 million visitors in Los Angeles and Anaheim annually by 2020.
Most visitors report that, in addition to attractions such as the Space Shuttle Endeavour (which saw 2.7 million visitors in 2013) and Disneyland, but also for the weather.
