PICO-ROBERSTON (CBSLA.com) — Detectives sought the public's help on Friday to locate two suspects who robbed a salesman of cash and jewelry in a parking lot overnight.
Around 6 p.m. on Thursday, a jewelry salesman was in the process of moving property in a parking lot located within the 8600 block of West Pico Boulevard near Shenandoah, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the man felt someone tugging on his bag after he placed it across his shoulder.
"A male with a ski mask got into a struggle with the victim for the bag," said Sgt. Guillermo Valdez. "Then a second male wearing a ski mask punched the victim in the nose."
The salesman then fell to the ground. Both men fled with his shoulder bag and two other pieces of luggage to an awaiting vehicle.
Paramedics treated the victim, who is believed to be in his 50s, at the scene for minor injuries sustained in the incident.
A preliminary investigation revealed the shoulder bag contained $5,000 in cash. About $750,000 worth of diamonds and pearls were located inside of the two luggage pieces.
Detectives said it remains unclear where the jewelry came from and where it was going as the salesman does not own a business.
The victim explained to authorities that the suspects were not armed during the incident.
Authorities are checking the area for surveillance video.
At this time, no suspect descriptions have been released.
The getaway vehicle was described as a white or silver four-door, compact sedan that is possibly a Toyota.
Police said they believe the suspects targeted the salesman, and the incident was not a case of a random attack.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
