LA HABRA (CBSLA.com) — A Korean War veteran was honored Wednesday with a Christmas surprise from some of his colleagues at the La Habra Police Department.
KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports 80-year-old part-time computer specialist Dick Pistole is headed back to Hawaii to fulfill his dream of visiting the USS Arizona memorial.

Pistole was deeply disappointed when the recent government shutdown prevented him from seeing the memorial located at Pearl Harbor in what he thought would be the former U.S. Marine's last chance to pay tribute to those fallen heroes.
After private donations from employees of the La Habra Police Department, Pistole was presented Wednesday with the funds at the La Habra City Council Chambers.
"What a Christmas gift, and what a bunch of very nice family members I have here," Pistole said.
Pistole is largely "seen as the department's grandfather-figure," a La Habra police spokesperson said.
