The shooting occurred at around 4 a.m. in the area of 108th Street and Vermont Avenue, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputies received a call about a female victim who was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by a man. The victim's friend spotted the suspect's car and began to follow it, the department said.

Investigators said the suspect later stopped, got out of the car, fired one round at the friend and then fired again at another occupied car. The suspect then got back in his SUV and drove away with the victim.

Deputies later located the vehicle at a park and ride. When they approached on foot, they saw the victim unclothed in the backseat. The suspect attempted to drive away, but the victim managed to escape, officials said.

The deputies then began to chase the suspect on Vermont Ave, headed toward 108th St. The suspect crashed into a gate, got out of the car, and began to run.

Officials said this is when a deputy shot the suspect, though it is unclear if the suspect shot at deputies first. Detectives said they recovered a firearm at the scene and no deputies were injured.

The suspect is an unidentified man in his 40s and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A little before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles police shot and killed an armed man who allegedly threatened several people with a gun at a 76 gas station located at the intersection of South Figueroa and West 111th streets.

The LAPD officers were on patrol and just happened to see the situation unfold, police said.

Meanwhile, at around 12:20 a.m. Thursday, a man was shot and killed at a different South L.A. gas station about four miles north. The gunman in that shooting remains at large.

There was no word on whether any of these incidents are related.
