LA Celebrates National Pi Day

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Math and baking converged into a delicious equation in Los Angeles Friday.

March 14 marked National Pi Day. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159.

At Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks, pie eating contests were the main attraction.

"[When I think of pi, I think of] pie eating contests," a student said.

In Culver City, Blaze Pizza offered pies at a discounted price—$3.14, of course. The line was out the door.

"Everyone is coming out, getting pizza for $3.14 today. It's going crazy right now," Manager Dietmer Rodriguez said.

Resident Ryan O'Connell isn't new to commemorating Pi Day.

"Sure, in high school, college, we would always bring in an apple or cherry pie," he said.
