Judge Releases 2nd LAX Dry-Ice Bomb Suspect

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man charged in connection with dry-ice bomb explosions at Los Angeles International Airport was ordered released Monday on his own recognizance.

DiCarlo Bennett, 28, of Paramount, was released Monday after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James R. Dabney determined he would not have to post $300,000 bail.

His co-defendant, Miguel Angel Iniguez, 41, of Inglewood, was freed from custody six days after being arrested in October.

Bennett was charged with two felony counts of possession of a destructive device in a public place, while Iniguez, his supervisor, was charged of one felony count of possession of a destructive device near a plane.

Prosecutors had no objections to Bennett's release due to the fact that he had no previous criminal record, there were no injuries involved and apparently no malicious intent.

As a ramp supervisor, Bennett allegedly placed two dry-ice bombs near LAX terminals on Oct. 13. One exploded in an employee restroom in Terminal 2 and the second, which didn't detonate, was placed outside the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Airport operations were disrupted by the explosions, but no one was injured.

Police allege Bennett planted the devices as a prank and because he was curious to see what would happen.

Iniguez allegedly made a third explosive device that detonated outside the Tom Bradley terminal, which caused no injuries.

Both men are scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 10, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for them to stand trial.
