Jetliner Lands Safely At LAX After Reportedly Being Struck By Lightning

LOS ANGELES ( — Los Angeles firefighters say a jetliner reportedly hit by lightning landed safely at LAX Saturday.

Alaska Airlines Flight 6 landed around 1:40 p.m.

Officials say 159 passengers and six crew members were on board the flight, which was bound for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

An Alaska Airlines spokesperson told CBS2/KCAL9 the pilot felt the plane may have been struck and turned around as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

CBS2's Greg Mills spoke to passengers at LAX who were grateful they weren't on the Alaska Airlines flight.

"Oh my gosh," said Kim Pierson, "I'm glad I didn't know that."

She was on a flight that was struck by lightning.

"I was flying home from Atlanta years ago. It was terrifying. You knew something was wrong, you saw the flash and then we bounced around a bit," she said still shaken by the memory.
