Woman Accused Of Taking LA Baby To Kentucky Identified As NY Resident
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 62-year-old woman accused of kidnapping a 17-month-old baby in Los Angeles and taking the child to Kentucky has been identified as a New York resident.
Maria Baltierra DeJesus was found with Alouette Day-Moreno-Baltierra at the University of Kentucky in Lexington on Thursday night after authorities received a call about a "suspicious person" on campus.
Baltierra DeJesus claimed to be the child's grandmother and reportedly gave a false name, according to campus police.
"She was very uncooperative; she was trying to hide the face of the child. She did not want us to question her about the child, other than she claimed it was her grandchild." Police Chief Joe Monroe said. "She did not want to provide us any documents on who the child's parents were. She was just very uncooperative with our officers."
Day-Moreno-Baltierra, who was abducted from Los Angeles in October 2012, was underdressed for the elements. Officials said she could have gotten frostbite in her feet had they not intervened in time.
