Irvine Cyclist Fatally Struck By Car In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating the death of a bicyclist who was struck by a car in Newport Beach.

The crash happened at San Joaquin Hills Road and Marguerite Avenue around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, Newport Beach police spokesperson Jennifer Manzella said.

The cyclist was identified as Paul Lin, 41, of Irvine, according to the Orange County Coroner's Office.

Lin was among a group of cyclists riding through the intersection. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Manzella said.

The driver, a man from Newport Beach, was not cited, Sgt. Mario Montero said.

Lin was apparently an avid cyclist and a member of at least two cycling Meetup groups in Orange County.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Newport Beach police investigator Scott Grecco at (949)644-3747 or by email at sgrecco@nbpd.org.
