Inmate Hospitalized After Apparent Suicide Attempt
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An inmate was hospitalized Tuesday in very serious condition, according to the LAPD. The man apparently tried to hang himself in his cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Initial reports by the Los Angeles Times indicated the inmate was a robbery suspect who tried to hang himself with a telephone cord. It was also reported he was on life support with a minor pulse, and considered brain dead. Police have not been able to confirm those reports.
The inmate was found Monday night during a routine cell check. His name is being withheld.
The LAPD says their Force Division is investigating.
