High-Surf Advisory Issued For LA, OC Beaches
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A high-surf advisory has been issued for beaches within Los Angeles and Orange counties, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.
According to meteorologists, the advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday as a result of a long period of west-northwest swells.
Waves 6 to 10 feet are expected along the shoreline throughout the day, creating strong rip currents and longshore currents.
Authorities have warned the public of dangerous swimming conditions today.
According to lifeguards, if you become caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until you are free from the current.
Forecasters added there is a chance for minor coastal flooding during times of high tide.
A small craft advisory will remain in effect to indicate hazardous wind and sea conditions until 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the NWS said.
Temperatures are expected to remain mild across the Southland today.
