Southern California has no shortage of museums. However, some of them are sprawling complexes that can be difficult to experience in just a short time. The Laguna Art Museum is not only a good size and easy to navigate, but it's also in one of the most scenic areas in Orange County. The museum is open from 11am to 5pm Friday through Tuesday. It stays open until 9pm on Thursdays and is closed on Wednesdays. Admission to the museum is $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Admission is free for children younger than 13.

Between 1945 and 1955, a group of fine art students studied under the direction of some of the greatest photographers of the age, including the great Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Minor White, Edward Weston, Dorothea Lange, and Lisette Model. The exhibit will present pieces of art from these students, who went on to become distinguished photographers themselves. Along with a book, the exhibition will feature around 60 selections of art from the teachers and students from the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco during that time period.

Landscape painter Anna Althea Hills (1882–1930) was one of the most revered and talented artists throughout the late 19th and early twentieth centuries. Her presence in the community helped put Laguna Beach on the map as a premier art colony during that time, and her "Miss Hills of Laguna Beach" painting will be on display until mid January of 2017 for Orange County residents to come and see. As a fixture of the Laguna Beach community, Hills embraced the city as not only a place where she could paint, but also to teach and she often welcomed many students to her studio.

The Laguna Art Museum will be presenting a selection of around eighty pieces of art that are gifts given to Museum recently. Given to be permanent fixtures of the gallery, many of them are being displayed for the first time only, and these paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and prints from all periods of the history of California art will offer the opportunity for the museum to show the progress it's made.
