Friedman: Mattingly Will Remain Dodgers' Manager Despite Maddon's Departure From Rays
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — President of Baseball Operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers reconfirmed Friday Don Mattingly will remain the team's manager despite the announcement that his close friend, Joe Maddon, will opt-out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.
"As I said last week, Joe and I enjoyed a tremendous relationship working together in Tampa Bay and I wish him nothing but the best wherever his next stop will be," Andrew Friedman said in a statement. "However, nothing has changed on our end. Don Mattingly will be our manager next season and hopefully for a long time to come."
The Rays announced the news about Maddon Friday morning.
The Dodgers hired Friedman last week from the Rays, where he guided the team to four postseason appearances, including division titles in 2008 and 2010.
He confirmed during that time that Mattingly will remain with the team . The manager has two seasons remaining in his three-year contract.
