Cold Snap Moves Through Southland, Freeze Watch To Be In Effect

PALMDALE ( — A cold snap moved through Southern California Monday morning.

A Freeze Watch will be in effect Monday night through Wednesday morning.

The cold weather started over the weekend, even bringing a dusting of snow to residents near Frazier Park in Los Padres National Park.

Los Angeles County Fire Battalion Chief Jon Lenihan said as the winter approaches, residents need to be aware of the dangers of the cold.

"In the United States one of the largest causes of fire is auxiliary heating.  People put their heaters too close to the combustible materials," Lenihan said. "You lose alarming amounts of water when the temperature is cold. You don't realize it because it's not on your skin like it would be on a hot day."

A Red Flag warning will be in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday due to gusty winds and low humidity.
