Foul Play No Longer Suspected In Deadly Woodland Hills Condo Fire
WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Police investigating a fast-moving fire that killed a woman Saturday night at a Woodland Hills condo have ruled out foul play.
Firefighters were called around 9:30 p.m. In less than half an hour, they were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other 90 or so units in the three-story complex, located in the 21600 block of Burbank Boulevard. Some units did sustain some smoke damage.
Residents were able to return to their homes Sunday morning. Meanwhile, firefighters cleaned out debris from the scorched apartment so that it would be safe to re-enter.
Investigators initially told CBS2/KCAL9 the fire may have been intentionally set but have since determined it was an accident. They still are working to determine what started it.
A woman was found dead inside the condo and a male relative was transported to a hospital with a major burn injury. He remained in serious condition Sunday morning.
Officials have not yet released the woman's identity.
