Ex-Teacher Gets Jail Time For Lewd Conduct With Student

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former substitute teacher in Los Angeles County has been sentenced to nine months in jail and five years probation for lewdness with a 13-year-old student.

The Whittier Daily News reports that 23-year-old Taylor Welch of La Mirada was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to one count of committing a lewd act upon a child.

Prosecutors say Welch met the 13-year-old girl at a La Mirada middle school where he was teaching. They later exchanged sexually explicit material on Facebook.

Welch also had inappropriate contact with the girl in the classroom after class.

Deputy District Attorney Michael DeRose says Welch must also undergo sex offender counseling and register with the sex offender registry.
