Former Controller Wendy Greuel Announces Run For Waxman's Congressional Seat

LOS ANGELES ( — Former mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel announced Thursday that she plans to run for the congressional seat being vacated by Henry Waxman.

Greuel, the former Los Angeles City Controller, lost to now-Mayor Eric Garcetti, 53.9 percent to 46 percent, in May.

Democratic Rep. Waxman, 74, announced his retirement Thursday after serving 20 terms in Congress. He represented the 33rd District, which includes Malibu, Santa Monica and Palos Verdes, making it one of the wealthiest districts in the nation.

Women's rights activist Sandra Fluke, author Marianne Williamson, and Calif. State Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) are also said to be joining the race for Waxman's soon-to-be vacant House seat.
