Crews Battle Fires In Val Verde, Castaic Lake
VAL VERDE (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Monday were battling a small brush fire in the city of Val Verde.
The fire, which scorched between three to five acres, broke out about 1:13 p.m. at Madison Way and Chiquito Canyon Road.
Aerial footage of the slow-moving blaze showed it moving uphill in medium to light brush.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was receiving assistance from the Ventura County Fire Department.
Structures for a short time were in the fire's path and were briefly threatened. Ground crews along with water dropping helicopters, however, appeared to be getting a handle on the blaze.
Elsewhere in the Castaic Lake area, a small grass fire erupted off Ridge Route Road and the 5 Freeway near a mobile home park. That blaze is several miles away from the Val Verde brush fire. Sky9's Gil Leyvas said a county airship has responded.
