LAFD Truck Crashes Into 5 Vehicles In Valley Glen; Firefighter Injured

VALLEY GLEN ( — A firefighter was hospitalized Wednesday for treatment of injuries sustained during a traffic collision that occurred in Valley Glen.

Around 2 a.m., firefighters traveling in a Valley Village Fire Station truck were responding to a medical emergency when the vehicle crashed into five parked vehicles that were unoccupied in the 13700 block of West Burbank Boulevard at Woodman Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire truck brought down two power poles, snapping live wires onto the ground before coming to a complete stop.

Upon their arrival, paramedics transported one firefighter to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He was released from the hospital shortly after 5:30 a.m., CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported.

Three other firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the truck, an engineer, experienced a medical emergency and was not able to control the vehicle, which prompted the crash.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews were sent to the scene to help restore power within a six block radius. For the majority of the morning, upwards of 3,500 customers remained without power.

Burbank Boulevard will remain closed from Woodman to Fulton avenues until further notice.
