Fire Victims Brace For Rain In The Forecast

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Sand bags surround the Saenger home in Santa Clarita.

The preparations come nearly four months after the devastating Sand Fire that destroyed nearly 20 houses and scarred more than 40,000 acres which could be at risk of mudslides when rain is expected to fall across Southern California Sunday.

"There are a lot of homes here that are going to be in jeopardy,"  Christy Saenger says. "A flash flood watch is expected to go into effect Sunday afternoon."

It's the main reason Bouquet Canyon Road has been closed since October 27 when a previous storm led to fears of flooding.

The Saengers have been meeting with their Home Owners Association in recent days because they're worried about the rainy season.

They were one of the first families to evacuate during the Sand Fire.

The LA County Public Works Department says its flood control system is ready while the Saengers say they're hoping the extra drainage they've added will hold up.

"I don't think it'll be as big a deal tomorrow as it will be in the coming winter months," Saenger said.
