FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Four people - including two children - were killed Friday while pulled over on the side of the 10 Freeway, authorities said.
The three-car crash occurred around just after 2 p.m. on the eastbound 10 Freeway east of Citrus Avenue in Fontana, according to California Highway Patrol.
Two other people involved in the crash have minor injuries and were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to officials.
Authorities say a disabled Honda was on the side of the road when it was hit by a Nissan Frontier pickup driven by Luis Sanchez, a 64-year-old Riverside man.
The car reportedly pulled over after it had overheated.
Investigators were on scene to determine the cause of the crash.
CBS 2's Tina Patel, reporting from the scene, said investigators found several beer cans in the Nissan that plowed into the Honda.
"There were some containers in the vehicle, beer containers. which in and of itself, doesn't mean anything. We can buy them or whatever. but we have to investigate," said CHP Officer Jesus Garcia.
A Good Samaritan in a Tacoma stopped to offer aid. That driver was among the deceased, she reported. On Saturday, the Good Samaritan was identified as Jose Prieto.
Two children, who were in the backseat of the Honda, also did not survive. A passenger in that car -- the driver's mother -- was also killed.
The driver of the Honda -- mother of the two children -- survived. The two deceased children have been identified by family as Briseno's 12-year-old son, Isaac Briseno, and 12-year-old step daughter, Ailyn Miguel.
Maria Briseno of La Puente and her 58-year-old mother stepped out of the Honda waiting for help. Briseno had called family members to report the car trouble and many of them arrived on scene to find the horrific crash.
"A lot of times we don't have family respond right away," said Garcia of the CHP, "but here, they were here within minutes of us arriving. And you have to deal with the emotions of them, seeing their family members who are dead at the scene."
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Briseno's family to help pay for funeral expenses. Click here for more information.
