Fashion Expert Offers Secrets Of Plus-Size Shopping

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A style and fashion expert offered tips for women who have problems shopping for plus-size clothing.

Reah Norman, the executive fashion director for PLUS Model Magazine, said she understands the challenges of buying clothes in sizes 14 to 26.

"Some complaints that I hear from plus-size women, in terms of shopping, is that we just don't have the options," she said.

Norman said it's important for shoppers to be online-savvy because plus-size women are sometimes forced to shop on the internet.

The fashion guru suggests these rules for online ordering:

1. Take measurements.

"Knowing your accurate measurements and being able to compare those to a specific retailer's size chart will help you choose the right size," she said.

2. Choose online retailers that offer free shipping and returns.

3. Buy clothes in two sizes if the online retailer offers a flat rate for shipping and returns.

Westfield Mall in Culver City is Norman's favorite place for women who prefer shopping in a store.

"There is Torrid, Ashley Stewart, Forever 21, H&M, and Macy's," she said.

Norman's favorite plus-size websites:

City Chic
ASOS
Simply Be
Sorella Swim
Lane Bryant

Norman will be giving free styling consultations on Oct. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Westfield Mall in Culver City.
