Family Of Seal Beach Shooting Victim File Suit Against Alleged Gunman

SEAL BEACH (KNX 1070) — The family of a hair stylist killed in a shooting rampage at a Seal Beach salon has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the alleged gunman, Scott Dekraai.

The parents of the late Michelle Fournier have hired attorney Eric Traut, who says the action against Fournier's ex-husband aims to provide financial support for their orphaned 8-year-old son, KNX 1070 Newsradio reported.

Traut says the suit seeking unspecified damages would tap into Dekraai's assets, allegedly in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, in order to compensate Fournier's family for the loss of a loved one.

"This wasn't a heat of passion, heat of the moment as he might try and argue because of a custody fight over his kid and that may have precipitated his anger but he certainly had hours to think about it, to contemplate it and that's what really is so disturbing about this case," he said.

Fournier's parents are also trying to transfer guardianship of her son to Fournier's 26-year-old daughter.
