Edson Buddle Returns To Galaxy

CARSON (AP) — The Los Angeles Galaxy signed veteran Edson Buddle for his second tour of duty with the team and also added Finnish midfielder Mika Vayrynen on Friday.

The defending MLS Cup champions made the moves the same day as their season-opening game against the Chicago Fire.

Buddle, a 13-year MLS veteran, is one of only eight players in league history to score over 100 goals.

The 33-year-old forward helped the Galaxy win the MLS Cup in 2012, and he was the team's MVP and won a Golden Boot in 2010.

Buddle was originally acquired by the Galaxy in 2008 in a trade with Toronto FC. He moved to Germany when he signed a contract with FC Ingolstadt 04 following the Galaxy's 2010 season, but returned to the Galaxy in 2012 after one year overseas.

The 33-year-old Vayrynen had a trial with the Galaxy during their European tour last month, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in Dublin. Coach Bruce Arena says he was impressed by Vayrynen's experience and ability.

Vayrynen spent 11 years in the Eredivisie with Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven before one season in England with Leeds. He spent the past three seasons with HJK Helsinki.

He has made 59 international appearances for Finland, scoring five goals.

Vayrynen will occupy an international roster spot with the Galaxy.
