Crews Extinguish Pallet Yard Fire In Fontana

FONTANA ( — Crews Wednesday extinguished a second-alarm fire that erupted within a pallet yard in Fontana.

Firefighters were sent to the Woodland Pallet yard, located in the area of Sierra and Slover avenues around 2 a.m., according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located flames burning within two acres of pallet stacked about 40 feet high.

A dozer was brought in to assist with containment.

More than 55 firefighters have been able to keep the blaze from reaching adjacent buildings.

Within 2 1/2 hours, crews were able to extinguish the fire.

No evacuations or injuries were reported.

Train traffic was stopped for a short time and surrounding roads were closed until the early morning hours.

Firefighters said numerous piles of pallets and other materials were broken up to be sure all flames were extinguished.

An estimate of damage has not yet been determined.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
