COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A Costa Mesa soup kitchen is giving thanks a day early after receiving a flood of donated food for its annual Thanksgiving feast.

Chef Lorrie Sanchez from the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen made an appeal for food Tuesday in order to feed hundreds of people on Turkey Day. She said the response has been overwhelming.

"It's just, coming out our cupboards now, and we're having to call other people to kinda cross-donate," she said. "Now we have so much that it's actually really a blessing because we're actually able to give out turkeys and like, a care package to people in the neighborhood who don't have a turkey."

Between 500 and 700 men, women and children will be at the soup kitchen on West 19th Street on Thursday.
