Concerns Over Plastic Pieces Lead To Recall Of Certain Chicken Sausage Products

LOS ANGELES ( — Concerns that products may be contaminated with pieces of plastic has led to the recall of about 60,000 pounds of fully cooked chicken sausage.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the recall by Massachusetts-based Kayem Foods this week.

The agency said in a news release that the products were produced on various dates last month and include:

• 12-ounce packages of Trader Joe's brand Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage with the case code 9605 and use by/freeze by dates of "4/22/15," "4/25/15," and "4/29/15."

• 8-ounce packages of al fresco brand Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage with the case code 9709 and use by/freeze by dates of "JUN 13, 2015" and "JUN 20, 2015."

The USDA further said the products have an establishment number of "P7839" and were shipped nationwide.

No injuries have been reported although the USDA says the issue was discovered after complaints were received from two people who found pieces of plastic.

Those with questions about the recall can dial (800) 426-6100, Ext. 247, or click here for more information.
