City Council OK's 3 Percent Water Rate Hike
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Department of Water and Power customers will soon see a sizeable rate hike on their water bill.
The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday night to approve a 3 percent increase in water rates for residential and business customers. The hike translates to a approximately $5.50 more a month.
The increase will fund nearly $600 million in upgrades to drinking water reservoirs, according to DWP officials.
Federal guidelines mandate that reservoirs need to be covered, or fines of up to $25,000 per day will be levied which would be passed along to taxpayers.
