Boy Seriously Wounded In Car-To-Car Shooting

LOS ANGELES ( — A 7-year-old boy was in serious condition Tuesday after he and two adults were shot while sitting inside a vehicle in the Mid-City area.

The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. in the 1900 block of South Corning, a residential and known gang area near the intersection of La Cienega Boulevard and Cadillac Avenue, according to LAPD Sgt. Mike Fox.

The second grader and a 31-year-old man were hit by gunfire, while the boy's mother suffered a graze wound to her leg.

The unidentified male victim, who suffered moderate injuries, drove to a nearby hospital.

The boy was later transferred to Children's Hospital for emergency surgery due to a bullet lodged near his heart.

"I can't understand why this happened," the boy's father said.

The adult victims were last listed in stable condition.

The suspects were driving a white car and were "only described as male African-Americans in dark clothing," police said.

"We have a 9-year-old that we're praying for who is fighting for his life," Sgt. Cleon Joseph said. "We really need your help. If you saw something, have the courage to stand up."

Anyone with information should contact the LAPD's West LA division at (310)444-0702.
