Census: California Is A Little Less Golden
LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070) — California is no longer the place to go but rather the place to leave.
That's according to recent census figures which showed that more people are leaving the Golden State than moving here.
KNX 1070's Bob Brill reports that population figures actually resemble that of 1900 rather than the boom of the 1950's when California was a hot destination.
Numbers reflecting the last decade showed that for the first time in nearly a century, the majority of people living in California were born here.
The lack of jobs, the cost of housing and the lure for businesses of lower taxes in other states are among the reasons causing the change.
Experts indicate too it is costing the state dearly as many of the best educated and well trained are taking their skills elsewhere.
Many of those surveyed said they would like to move back for the weather, the lifestyle and the diversity.
