ACTON (CBSLA.com) — A camel escaped from its corral Friday in the Antelope Valley, injuring a man.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call at 8:39 a.m. about the animal in the 500 block of East Soledad Canyon Road in Acton.
A man in his 70s who tried to wrangle the animal was bitten and knocked to the ground.
"My dad . . . and tried to catch it and it must have cornered him or something and it took off after him, bit him on the head and knocked him down and stomped on him," the victim's daughter, Skylar Dossenbach, said. "He crawled under something and the camel tried to pull him out from under it."
Dossenbach said her father suffered a wide gash on his head and will require stitches. The man was transported to Palmdale Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The camel also caused unspecified damages to a vehicle while it was free.
It was captured around 9:55 a.m. and returned to its owner, who was keeping the animal illegally on his property, officials said.
