Burglary Suspect Arrested At Valinda Home After Teen Boy Inside Calls Police

VALINDA (CBS) — Deputies caught a burglary suspect at a San Gabriel Valley residence Tuesday after a teen boy inside called authorities.

Deputies were called to the 16800 block of Lawnwood Street at 11:10 a.m. when the boy called 911 dispatchers, saying he heard someone trying to break into the home, Lt. John McBride said.

The boy grabbed a portable phone, ran to his bed and hid under the sheets. He provided updates to the dispatcher as the deputies approached his home. At one point the suspect was pillaging the same room where the boy had been hiding, McBride said.

Law enforcement saw the suspect inside the home and, as they approached the front door, they were greeted by the suspect who acted as if he lived in the home.

But deputies told him the jig was up. Deputies arrested 42-year-old Aurelio Hernandez, of Valinda, and booked him at the Industry Station. He was being held on $50,000 bail.
