FULLERTON ( — A Saturday afternoon brush fire near  St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton prompted the evacuation of homes in a nearby neighborhood as well as the Fullerton Sports Complex.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at the rear portion of the Brea dam, near Harbor Boulevard, shortly before 1:30 p.m., authorities said. By 3 p.m., evacuations had been ordered for several nearby residential streets, including Poppy and Sunflower streets and Marion Boulevard, but not the hospital.

Flames got within about 100 feet of some homes, officials said.
