Brush Fire Knocked Down In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Crews Friday were on the scene of a brush fire that erupted within the Sepulveda basin.

The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. in the 15700 block of W. Burbank Boulevard and Woodley Avenue and burned for nearly two and a half hours until crews extinguished the flames, officials said.

According to the Los Angeles City Fire Department, the fire spread to two different areas and burned a total of eight to 10-acres that ran North and South of Burbank Boulevard.

Officials said that 125 firefighters had some difficulty accessing part of the fire due to heavy brush in the area.

One helicopter issued water drops over the burning areas, authorities said. There was a discussion of bringing in a water crane to assist in the dense forest area.

Sky9's Stu Mundel reported from overhead that traffic on the 405 and 101 freeways seemed to be running smoothly as the smoke was blowing away from the freeways.

According to fire officials, no structures were damaged by the brush fire and no injuries were reported.

Burbank Boulevard was closed between Woodley Avenue and Balboa Boulevard for a period of time while firefighters tackled the blaze. It was unclear if the area has reopened.

Officials said that some firefighters remained on the scene Friday evening to continue extinguishing hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
