Boyle Heights Church Donations Stolen From 80-Year-Old Parishioner In Robbery Caught On Tape

BOYLE HEIGHTS ( — Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying two people suspected of robbing a church in Boyle Heights of its weekly donations.

The robbery happened around 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at the Church of the Assumption, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

It was then that police say a suspect grabbed a canvas bag containing donations in the amount of $4,100 from an 80-year-old parishioner after a weekly money count.

Police said the parishioner attempted to hold onto the bag, but had to let go after being dragged on the pavement.

The suspect, described as a thin build Hispanic man, made off in a late-model, black sedan, police said. He was wearing a black hat, dark jacket, and light colored pants.

Late Friday, forensics expert Doug Carner volunteered time to enhance images of the suspect.

The parishioner was treated at the scene by first responders. The extent of his injuries was not known.

Police are also searching for a second suspect they say acted as a getaway driver. No description was available.
