Boy Fatally Shot In Mid-City Identified

LOS ANGELES ( — The 7-year-old boy who was killed in a car-to-car shooting in the Mid-City area was identified by authorities Wednesday.

Talaib Pecante died Tuesday at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. Pecante was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery because a bullet had lodged next to his heart.

The boy and a 31-year-old man were struck when "numerous" shots were fired at them in the 1900 block of South Corning Street at about 9 p.m. Monday, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mike Fox said.

The suspects, who remain at large, are described as four black men who were wearing hoodies. They were in a white vehicle.

Talaib, who was in second grade, had been in the vehicle with his mother and her male friend. The mother was also injured in the shooting and hospitalized.

The boy's father, who asked to remain unidentified, pleaded for the suspects to come forward.

"If these individuals that shot my son turned themselves in, that's when the violence is gonna stop," he said Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the LAPD's West L.A. Division at (310)444-0702.
