Boy, 17, Killed In Granada Hills Crash Identified

GRANADA HILLS ( — A 17-year-old boy who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Granada Hills was identified by the Coroner's office Thursday.

Philomene Ragni, known as Philo, was fatally struck around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 16200 block of West San Fernando Mission Boulevard, officials said.

Investigators say the John F. Kennedy High School student was riding his bicycle when he suddenly turned into the path of a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power truck.

Ragni, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, who passed a sobriety test, was traumatized by the accident.

The LADWP issued a statement extending heartfelt sympathies to Ragni's family and friends.

Students at John F. Kennedy remembered their classmate Thursday.

"People are supposed to wear blue, white or black today and a ribbon in the quad for him," student Brianna Sanchez said.

"He was always happy, just always had a smile, always really funny just a really good person to be around," another student said.

Grief counselors visited classrooms to offer support to students and teachers.

"We're sad," Principal Richard Chavez said. "We have students that he touched a lot and feel very close to him and the family has had such a loss in their family. So our school is now in the process of putting together anything possible to help the family and our students.
