Indulge your creative senses as accomplished poet, novelist and essayist David Matlin speaks at Chapman University. Known for his literary works including "Fontana's Mirror," "China Beach," "Dressed in Protective Fashion," "How the Night is Divided" and "Prisons: Inside the New America," Matlin is a significant contributor to the creative writing community. Matlin has been described as "one of the most original and haunting of the young American poets." His book, "How the Night is Divided" was a National Book Circle Critics Award Nominee. Be sure to check out his most recent novel, "A Halfman Dreaming."

Hosted by Steve Ramirez and Ben Trigg, Two Idiots Peddling Poetry provides poetry enthusiasts with a creative, expressive outlet. The weekly show encourages poets to "Have Fun! Take Risks! Don't worry what other people will think! Be respectful (but preferably irreverent)!" The evening is typically composed of a few poets that read 20 to 30 minutes each. This independently-owned coffee shop supports local artists in Orange County by providing opportunities for writers, musicians and painters to showcase their talent. Performance art, including poetry readings, live music and comedy, is performed weekly at the venue. Additionally, books written by local authors can be found on the counter and the shop displays art created by local artists on the walls. Who knows, you may want to read your own poem during the next open mic.
