Orange County is a cultural hot spot featuring hundreds of museums, art galleries, and various art boutiques. For some creative family fun, these five artsy venues will add color and life to family night. With multimedia programs designed for all ages there is something for everyone at these OC arts and crafts shops. Whether it's painting pottery, drawing cartoons, or sitting for a spin at the potter's wheel, families will create a memory in addition to a work of art.

Color Me Mine at the Birch Street Promenade in Brea is the perfect place to spend quality time with the family and paint a creative keepsake. The process is easy. Just choose a plate, bowl, cup, or other ceramic creation and have fun painting it with the kids, then hand it over to the professionals to fire your art. The final product is ready in five to seven days for pick up. Located at the trendy SoCo Collection in Costa Mesa, a visit to the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity can become a full day of family art, dining, and more. Nearly every Saturday morning, the Chuck Jones Center holds a free Drop In And Draw program where kids of all ages can sketch, doodle, or color in the open studio. Art and TVs on the walls help inspire budding artists to try out new techniques in a very relaxed atmosphere with no pressure at all. Lots of chic shops and eclectic eateries are just a few steps from the Center, creating a tantalizing tableaux and fun family memories.

On the third Sunday of each month, the Laguna Art Museum hosts Kids Art Studio, where families create a memorable work of art together, inspired by the art on display in the museum. This free drop in program requires no reservation and runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Located in one of the most picturesque and art-centered cities in Orange County, the Laguna Art Museum is the perfect setting for a family day trip. Once the family masterpiece is finished, a stroll to Main Beach or a downtown cafe can add the finishing touch to day of unforgettable family fine art.

With a number of drop in programs for kids, teens, and adults, The Ceramics Studio is the perfect place to get your hands dirty and make something memorable. At any time, guests can come in to paint a piece of pottery or ceramics, or even create their own. Friendly staff are ready to help parents and their kids sculpt or hand shape any kind of figure the imagination inspires. For an added challenge, visitors can try out the potter's wheel to create a decorative centerpiece or a unique and useful jug or bowl. The Irvine Fine Arts Center offers two programs to get kids and their parents involved in the arts. The Parent and Me Art Time is designed for kids ages three to five years old to experiment with different kinds of paint and media as they collaborate with their parents on the same project. This is a four week program offered each month and held on Monday mornings. The Family Art Time focuses on one type of paint or medium during each of the stand alone sessions. Classes are held on Saturday mornings, and are designed for children age five and older with parent participation. Types of media include drawing, clay, painting, and printmaking. These programs, offered through the city of Irvine, are the perfect way to spend quality time with your child while simultaneously stimulating their creativity.
