Best Pet-Friendly Camping Spots In Orange County

It's easy to think of Orange County as an area that is filled with condos and shopping centers. However, you can also find some good places to enjoy the outdoors. Let's face it: there is plenty of great scenery to experience in Orange County. If you want to camp in Orange County, but you don't want to board your dog, here are some campsites that will welcome your pets.

O'Neill Regional Park

O'Neill Regional is a great place for a weekend staycation. You'll find plenty of trails for hiking in addition to fire and barbecue pits. This park even has a playground to keep the kids occupied. For those who like being outdoors but, don't want to rough it entirely, restrooms and showers are available. Dogs are allowed on the campground and all the paved trails. However, mountain lions are in the area so you need to be careful and keep your dog on a leash no longer than six feet.

If camping is good, then camping on the beach is even better. This park is a great place for active people who like to bike, fish, or surf. It's also a great place to have a fire on the beach after enjoying a great southern California sunset. Dogs are allowed on the campground but not on the sand. They are allowed only in the parking lot and on the trail and must be on a leash no longer than six feet. Dogs must be kept in vehicles at night.

Doheny State Beach boasts more than 120 campsites and is a great place for those who enjoy water activities. You can surf here both with a board and a kayak. Paddleboarding is also available in a certain area along San Juan Creek. You'll also find volleyball courts here. Dogs are allowed here but only in the campground and picnic areas. Dogs must be on a leash and must be kept in a tent or a vehicle at night.

Canyon RV Park is a bit of an oddity in a good way. It is a great campsite that just happens to be close to attractions like Disneyland. You'll find great paths for hiking. The campsite is located right by the Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail, so it's a great place to get on your bike and ride. This site is pet-friendly but with restrictions. Only two pets are allowed per campsite. Pitbulls and Rottweilers - or any mixes of those breeds - are not allowed. Dogs must be on a leash and cannot be left outside at night.

One reason to go camping at Newport Dunes is the great cottages you can rent. This place also offers the opportunity to enjoy the water by renting kayaks, sailboats, windsurfers, and electric boats. Lessons are available for both sailing and windsurfing. Dogs are permitted here with a limit of two per campsite and a charge of $2 per pet per day. All pets must be licensed and vaccinated. No pitbulls, Rottweilers or mixes of those breeds are permitted at Newport Dunes.
