With origins in Great Britain, fish and chips was and still is a popular pub menu item. Today, the battered white fish and cut chips (aka French fries) is a favorite for young and old alike. From LA to Malibu, you'll find a wide selection of seafood specialty restaurants and English-style pubs serving fish and chips. This list has narrowed down the best five to check out.

For a luxurious fish and chips experience, The Ivy on Robertson surely will not disappoint. Known for daily celebrity sightings, the charming restaurant is definitely a place to be seen and to eat. The beautifully-presented plate is served with hand-cut French fries and the famous Ivy onion rings. Any good British pub restaurant is going to be serving up their version of fish and chips, and Hollywood's The Pikey does just that and more. Walking into The Pikey, you might think you've walked into an authentic pub in England, but that's just what they want you to feel like. This Tudor-style restaurant is about as authentic as it gets right down to the food. Dipped in PBR beer batter, their Fish and Chips comes complete with a long piece of fried fish, delicious fries and romaine garnish. Add in their tasty tartar sauce and you've got a great lunch dish that you can enjoy with a beer on tap or by the bottle.

Locally caught, Tam O'Shanter Inn's fish and chips is a delicious piece of battered cod served with beer fat french fries and peanut coleslaw that is undoubtedly one of the best in the city. One bite of the fish dipped in their house-made tartar sauce, and you'll know exactly why this Atwater Village pub has been around for more than 90 years. Although technically a Scottish pub, it represents the British dish quite well indeed.

One thing is for sure at this West Hollywood eatery: Connie & Ted's know's their seafood. So much so that it's the only thing they serve. While everything on the menu is worth a try, Joanne's Fish and Chips is a favorite. Served with fries/chips, you'll get 2 large batter-dipped pieces of cod to rejoice in along with their tartar sauce.

The fish and chips at the Malibu landmark Neptune's Net satisfies everyone from the SoCal surfing community and beach bums to the neighboring stars and locals to the city mice and tourists. Since 1958, Neptune's Net has been serving its famous beer batter fish and chips to tables with a plentiful side of French fries. There's nothing fancy about this dish, but Neptune's Net aims and delivers perfectly for this classic. For lunch and dinner, the menu offers a wide variety of seafood delights including fish and shrimp tacos, crab cakes and calamari, while the espresso bar gives your sunkissed lips a perfect lift in the afternoon.

Fishbar Manhattan Beach delivers on cuisine and affordability. Fresh seafood is hand selected daily. The whole fish supply is given to her master fileter who does all of the cutting on the premises, never keeping any fish in the restaurant for more than 24 hours. It is served the same day it is brought in. Chef Jordan bumps it up a notch on classics such as fish and chips which are beer battered, fried and served with French fries, creamy coleslaw and her housemade tartar sauce. The interesting selection of sandwiches does not disappoint either -- the lobster roll sandwich, blackened mahi mahi sandwich and Asian-style grilled salmon wrap are all great options.
