The weekend has arrived and if you haven't solidified your plans yet, you are probably not the only one. Figuring out what to do with two-plus days of free time is a tough task. We ran through our special calendar of events to assemble a quick list of great options of how best to make the weekend worthwhile.
Pasadena City Hall & Various Venues
100 Garfield Ave.
Pasadena, CA 91101
Pasadena's answer to the artwalk craze has resonated with an enthusiastic community that has turned ArtNight into an annual pilgrimage that saw some 28,000 visitors last year alone. Spaced out over some 16 different destinations throughout the city, independent galleries, the Armory Center, museums, the city library, and even City Hall play host to local artists in a neighborhood-based celebration that marries art, music, entertainment, and food trucks naturally. With each location staying open late and opening their doors for free, the people of Pasadena and beyond are invited to checkout the art, mix, mingle, and spend an evening getting lost in the city. With shuttles operating to help get visitors to and from the different locations, ArtNight is a citywide party that is the perfect way to spend a Friday night.

Vegan Taco Competition
639 N Larchmont Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90004
The taco in Los Angeles is about as fundamental as the hot dog is to baseball. The city is brimming with destinations all serving their finest contribution to the ultimate street food. Having a competition involving the taco is a tough task but tackling a Vegan taco is an added caveat that is enough to pique most foodies' interest. Café Gratitude within the Larchmont area is hosting nine of the city's best chefs all vying for the title of best Vegan taco. Mick Weldon of 100 Tacos, Raul Medina of Taqueria la Venganza, Andrew Perez of Organix, and Ernesto Moreno of Café Gratitude will be just a few of the competing chefs. Guests need $20 to score the goods and cast their vote, with all proceeds going to the Los Angeles Humane Society. Not that you needed a reason to enjoy nine signature tacos, but with the money going to charity and the ingredients coming from responsible sources, this is top-notch tortilla-wrapped goodness.
R. Kelly Buffet Tour
777 Chick Hearn Ct.
Los Angeles, CA 90015
R. Kelly is widely-considered one of the most prolific singer/songwriters in R&B music. For more than two decades, the Chicago native has continued to chart, sell records, and pack in concerts. The Buffet marks his 13 studio release and only his 11 arena tour. Dotting 40-cities across the country, Kelly charges through some 40+ songs each night spanning his 20-something plus year career. Considering he amount of songs the man is responsible for, it's impossible to not come across one that will stick with you. Known for bringing the spectacle to the stage, this is a hot ticket.
13th Annual Mourning Tour
Heritage Square Museum
3800 Homer St.
Los Angeles, CA 90031
Los Angeles has a wide array of museums and cultural centers, but few places in the city are like Heritage Square Museum. A living monument to Victorian-era design and architecture, the art on the grounds is an actual collection of buildings and homes from the era. Now in it's 13th year, the museum hosts a Mourning Tour, in line with the time of the season of Halloween. The tours are essentially a crash course in how people of the time dealt with and celebrated the passing of loved ones. Focusing on etiquette and decorum, the tour gives visitors an interactive look at history within the context of something universal, like death. Easily one of the most picturesque places in the city, this is something off the beaten path that will ensure you have a unique weekend.
Jimmy Eat World
9009 Sunset Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90069
Scoring a ticket to watch a band like Jimmy Eat World is a guaranteed great time but when you cram a band of that size into an iconic club on Sunset, well, now you have an event. Jimmy Eat World is taking to the stage at The Roxy this weekend and there's just no way the show will be anything less than stellar. To see an arena-sized act hit the sweaty club circuit adds an element of intimacy that always seem to make the songs sound and feel better. Everyone is packed in tight and singing along in a way that would be annoying and inconvenient, if it wasn't so fun. You have been advised. Hit Hollywood this Sunday and see this show.
